But what exactly is a great awakening? How did the previous awakenings begin, and what makes this fifth awakening significant?
According to the vision behind the program, every great awakening begins with one simple thing: people genuinely hungry for God.
It Begins with Hunger
The history of great spiritual awakenings reminds us that revival doesn’t begin with large crowds, impressive stages, or famous ministers. It begins with people who are deeply hungry for God and willing to take the Gospel beyond the walls of the church.
The first Great Awakening was marked by powerful preaching, prayer,, and an extraordinary concern for people often overlooked by society. Ministers took the Gospel to the poor, people in prisons, and the homeless. They preached a message of light, healing and love.
Figures associated with this period included George Whitefield, D. L. Moody, David Brainerd, John Wesley, and Charles Wesley. Their preaching challenged people to return to God and awakened the Church to a deeper sense of spiritual responsibility.
The message was simple but powerful: God’s light must reach people wherever they are.
From One Awakening to Another
The first Great Awakening continued for about 25 years and became a significant period of spiritual renewal.
The Second Great Awakening, which took place roughly between 1790 and 1840, lasted about 50 years. It was characterized by widespread preaching, evangelism, and renewed Christian commitment. Leaders and ministers during this period helped spread the message of salvation and encouraged people to live out their faith.
The Third Great Awakening, associated with the period between 1850 and 1900, brought another wave of spiritual and social transformation. Christian leaders and movements became increasingly involved in issues affecting society, including slavery, poverty, and the welfare of vulnerable people.
These awakenings demonstrate an important truth: revival is not merely about what happens inside a church building. Genuine spiritual awakening eventually affects lives, families, communities, and society.
What About the Fourth?
The journey did not end with the third awakening. The Church has continued to experience different expressions of revival and spiritual renewal across generations.
Now, attention is being drawn to the Fifth Great Awakening.
This awakening is being presented as more than another Christian gathering. It is described as “A Divine Revolution”—a call for believers to become spiritually awakened, passionate about the Gospel, and willing to become instruments of God’s work in their generation.
The central idea is that the Church must not become comfortable while the world around it still needs hope, healing, and salvation.

The 5th Great Awakening – A Divine Revolution will commence tomorrow, Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at 6:00 p.m.

Among the invited ministers are Reverend Dr. Moses Maduba and Dr. Mrs. Gloria Maduba, Apostle Yinka John from the United Kingdom, Dr. Brenda Kelly, Pastor John McGee, Pastor Godfrey Gad, and Prophet Remi.
