After completing his education in mathematics at the University of Ibadan, he embarked on a teaching career, but his true calling was deeply rooted in his unwavering faith in God. He became a born-again Christian in April 1964. In the early 1970s, Kumuyi worked as an education lecturer at the University of Lagos.
The Birth of Deeper Christian Life Ministry:
In 1973, while being a professor of mathematics at the University of Lagos, Pastor Kumuyi founded the Deeper Life Bible Ministry, a non-denominational Christian organization focused on promoting spiritual growth and revival.
From the humble beginnings of a Bible study group with just 15 students who had come to him for Bible training, to being expelled from his church in 1975 for preaching on the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Pastor Kumuyi never relented from walking in the light despite facing challenges along the way.
He continued his independent ministry, and through the Holy Spirit’s guidance, the ministry quickly gained traction. And under Pastor Kumuyi’s visionary leadership, it soon grew to become a powerful force for positive change in Nigeria and beyond. Which in 1982 became the Deeper Life Bible Church.
